The work of the Trust reflects the concerns of Ann Watson who left a significant legacy in 1720. Ann Watson was a committed Christian and the Trust continues to reflect her values and has a desire to invest in the education of children and young people in Hull and East Riding. We award .grants to schools, other educational organisations, churches and voluntary bodies which have an educational, social or community benefit for activities which are not funded by statutory authorities
Guidelines:
1. The ultimate beneficiaries must be under the age of 25 years and resident in Hull or the East Riding. Grants for the training or on-going education for leaders of such organisations may be considered by the Trustees at their absolute discretion.
2. Grants may be awarded for special benefits not provided by statutory authorities or other responsible organisations.
3. Grants may be awarded to voluntary bodies which promote social, physical or emotional training and/or life skills or informal educational benefits for individuals and groups.
4. Grants may be awarded, following a course of study, to support the non-core activities of educational organisations, for example, training, travel or maintenance costs to enable young persons to further their education or access employment.
5. Preference will be given to Church of England parishes, schools or organisations recommended by the local clergy or other organisations meeting the above criteria.
6. Before making an award the Trustees may look for matched funding wherever possible. An initial award for up to three years support may be considered as seed funding, however the applicant must demonstrate that they will then be self-supporting thereafter. Any extension to this period will require a new application based on the achievement of the aims in the first grant.
7. Grant requests may come from other charitable bodies. Trustees will give careful consideration to the funding background of such bodies with reference to paragraph 2 above.
8. Grant requests for significant capital projects can be supported where these are for educational benefit and other non-statutory funding is either not available or insufficient. Applications must be made well in advance of the funding requirement and should be reflected in the applicant organisation’s annual budget.
9. The Trustees will require organisations receiving assistance to report annually on the achievement or progress towards achievement of the objectives described in the grant application. Continuation of support will be based on these reports which will be made clear at the initial acceptance stage.
